Zim slashes mobile tariffs

Harare – The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has slashed mobile tariffs by about 35% to 15 US cents.

In a statement released on Wednesday, POTRAZ said with effect from January 1 2015 charges for mobile cellular voice calls, including VAT and excise duty, should not exceed the following maximum thresholds: mobile net on net calls (per minute) have been reduced to 15c from 23c, while SMS messages will now cost 5c from about 11c.

POTRAZ said these charges are in accordance with the Determination that was issued to all operations on October 16 and amended on November 26, “in line with the implementation of results of the recently concluded cost studies for telecommunication services” conducted by Potraz, in consultation with stakeholders which include concerned operators.
