The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second is awarding 100 exemplary teachers in deprived districts from all regions of the country.
Special awards will also be presented to individuals and organizations who have contributed immensely to teaching and learning.
The Otumfuo’s Teachers and Educational Workers Awards scheme was instituted in 2011 to provide incentive packages to teachers who opt to work in rural communities and excel in their responsibilities.
Executive Director of the Otumfuo Charity Foundation, Dr. Francis Agyarko-Poku says the awards scheme is to motivate teachers who make sacrifices to render services in remote communities.
The Otumfuo is also engaged in provision of educational materials and infrastructure under the Education Fund and Charity Foundation.
“In addition we also have a new innovation called ‘the Otumfuo Mobile Learning Project’. The project has a set of computers – 100 of them – and we go to villages setting up computer laboratories and teach them between 1pm and 2pm and them we move on,” he stated.
Dr. Agyarko-Poku says appreciating the efforts of professionals and investing in education will help promote sustainable development.
The Awards ceremony holds at the Manhyia Palace on Tuesday.
