Ayew is in contention with Cote d’Ivoire’s Yaya Toure and Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the continent’s highest individual footballing honour which will be handed out in Abuja later tonight.
Oliseh told Nigeria’s The Punch in an interview that Ayew deserved to win the laurel because that would bring a new twist to what has become the ‘tradition’ of Francophone winners. Oliseh said, “I think Ayew deserves it to stop the monotony.”
Meanwhile, one of Oliseh’s team-mates from his time with the Super Eagles, Victor Ikpeba, believes Yaya Toure deserves to win the award again.
He told the Punch in an interview that Toure’s role in Cote d’Ivoire’s capture of the 2015 AFCON was a huge boost for the Manchester City’s bid to win the award again.
