The first phase of the affordable housing project at Saglemi, near Prampram in the Greater Accra Region, is progressing at a swift pace, President John Dramani Mahama has said.
The Saglemi project is being undertaken by Construtora OAS Ghana Limited, a Brazilian construction firm, and funded by Emerging Markets Fixed Income Division of the Credit Suisse, London, and is expected to be completed this year. It is part of government’s efforts to reduce the 1.7 million housing deficit in the country.
Mr Mahama has said: “As part of my Accounting to the People Tour of the Greater Accra Region, which began today [Tuesday], I decided to visit the site of the 5,000-unit Saglemi Housing Project to inspect the progress of work and interact with the contractors”.
“Work is progressing speedily on the first phase, made up of 1,500 housing units. After my tour, I visited one of the completed and furnished 2-bedroom housing units.”
He posted on his Facebook page that: “We [government] can, indeed, together transform this lovely country, Ghana.”
