President Buhari visits China to discuss Nigeria’s development

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is visiting China where he is expected to sign a series of trade and investment deals later this week.

Mr Buhari is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Ever since he took office last year, the Nigerian leader has been making efforts to fix a shrinking economy hammered by the fall in global oil prices.

President Buhari’s priority in China will be to secure loans to plug a ten billion dollar deficit in his budget.

He wants to use the money to improve the country’s crumbling infrastructure and invest in agriculture.

His government also says it will discuss issuing Chinese – backed bonds to raise funds in the future.
