One shot in Berekum chieftaincy clash

One person has been shot in a renewed chieftaincy clashes at Berekum Kato in the Brong Ahafo region.

The injured person, a child, has been rushed to the Berekum Government Hospital for treatment.

An eyewitness who spoke on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Monday said the angry youth of the town have taken to the streets and blocked the main Berekum-Sunyani highway in support of their various factions.

The youth, according to the witness are armed with guns and stones which they are aiming at one another.

Personnel of the Ghana Police Service who stormed the location to maintain calm is said to have sped off following a charge on them by the angry youth.

“Both sides of the chieftaincy crisis have blocked the roads at their ends and are preventing vehicles from coming to and from Sunyani…they are angry and have charged on the police so they have also fled the scene…maybe to call for reinforcement…,” the eyewitness said.

Several warning shots to disperse the crowd by the police failed
