Nii Noi considers going independent

Defeated New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant Valentino Nii Noi Nortey is considering calls by various groups in the Korle Klottey constituency to break away from the NPP.

Members of the Osu Youth Development Association organised a news conference on Monday 29 February to declare their support for him if he considers their call.

Solomon Ayittey, the spokesperson for the group, told Class News in an interview that: “We are calling on Nii Noi to stand as an independent candidate. We have researched and discovered that the party doesn’t like him. …We have seen that the party doesn’t want to come to power so we want him to go independent.”

Meanwhile, members of the Nii Noi camp have indicated that the call is worth considering, but further consultations will be held to respond to the youth and other individuals within one week.

Kissi Yeboah, the spokesperson for Nii Noi, pointed out that: “I wasn’t so surprised at the latest development because the will of the people did not manifest at the primaries. We feel he has been humiliated and cheated enough. That is the call from them; we are going to have some consultations especially with the family in the area for disowning him, it is a serious matter. If you look at development projects he has done in the area, even if he lost on fair grounds, they would have understood. The people are calling on Nii to come. The Wulomo has also spoken and it would not be an easy task at all,” he emphasised.
