Greater Accra Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade Cooker has said his party can only win power if the current power crisis is dealt with.
He said the situation is making his job as Chairman for the party, as it prepares for the 2016 General Elections, more difficult because a lot more work has to be put into convincing voters to vote and retain the party in power.
Ade Cooker believes fixing the energy problems the country currently faces, will enable the NDC win the election in 2016.
Speaking on Joy News’ Am Show, the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice chairman stated emphatically that “if it continues going this way our people will not be happy, so fix it and let’s have power…these are the kind of things that will win us an election”.
He also believes the constant absence of the sector minister from the country makes attempts at salvaging the power crisis even more problematic.
“I want this Minister to be constantly in the county rather than going to seminars here, seminars there. These days with modern technology one can easily get access to information, we should cut out those conferences that we find our ministers all globetrotting all over the place. The solutions to our problems are here.”
The chairman wants ministers to help the President achieve his vision within the two years left in his administration for an unchallengeable win in 2016.
He is however optimistic that Dr. Kwabena Donkor the newly appointed Minister of Power will do a good job.
President John Mahama last November nominated Dr Kwabena Donkor, Member of Parliament for Pru East constituency as Minister for the newly created Ministry of Energy as part of efforts to restructure the sector.
