With Microsoft set to release their Xbox One Scorpio system next spring, some major news regarding the future of consoles as a whole has surfaced. In an interview at Gamescom, Xbox games marketing head Aaron Greenberg, insisted that Microsoft believes the end of console generations is near – with Sony’s PlayStation Neo 4K and their high-end console being the last.
Nintendo is taking a different approach to gaming, with the release of their NX device – which should be an indication of the similar approach both Sony and Microsoft plan to take before 2020.
Greenberg on the future of console gaming:
“We think the future is without console generations. For us, we think the future is without console generations; we think that the ability to build a library, a community, to be able to iterate with the hardware – we’re making a pretty big bet on that with Project Scorpio. We’re basically saying, “This isn’t a new generation; everything you have continues forward and it works.” We think of this as a family of devices.”
