The culprit, Akwesi Ganu, believed to be mentally deranged Thursday evening launched the attacks on his mother, father, sister, nephew and two other neighbours.
The Divisional Crime Officer for Assin Fosu, DSP John Coffie, who confirmed the incident said a sixth victim however survived the attack and is receiving treatment at the St Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu.
According to the DSP Coffie, they received a call that someone had killed his relatives at Assin Akrofuom.
He said upon reaching the scene, they found an elderly man who had been beheaded and a young lady who had been butchered lying by the man.
“When we entered the main house too, we found out that the landlord’s head was almost off, his two hands were chopped off. The last person who our investigation revealed to be the landlord’s son, six year old, was lying there helpless but the suspect bolted,” DSP Coffie added.
He said the suspect managed to escape but was apprehended by residents in a nearby village.
DSP Coffie stated however that the suspect was brought to the police station dead.
“When the youth launched a manhunt for the suspect they brought him dead after he was captured,” DSP Coffie said.
