Limited Voter registration underway

The Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced a 10-day nationwide limited voters registration exercise, which ends on Sunday, May 8, 2016 to allow first-time voters to register to be able to vote in national elections and referenda.

The commission has accordingly reached out to Ghanaians who have attained the age of 18 and those who could not register during the last voters registration exercise in order to capture them on the electoral roll.

According to the EC, it is expecting some 1.2 million young people and adults to get their names onto the register ahead of the November polls.

At the La Nkwantanang constituency in Greater Accra, our reporter, Yakubu Abdul-Jalil said as of 8:25am the Mora Polling Station was yet to register applicants.

The assistant registration officer, Mr Eric Appau Boadu told our reporter those who came to register did not have guarantors and the few who had guarantors presented invalid identity cards

Observers at the station were mainly from the NDC and NPP. The other parties did not have representatives as of the time Graphic Online visited the station.

Both party representatives expressed disappointment at the level of sensitisation by stakeholders, especially on the required Identity Card to be used.
