The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman South Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, Adjei Mensah has advised Ghanaians who claim they cannot cope with the current energy crisis, ‘Dumsor’ to pick up their passports and leave the country or migrate to neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire.
The MP who was speaking on Accra-based Atinka FM said the neighbouring West African country would be the best place to accommodate persons who believe the Mahama government is under-performing.
The MP made the statement after the government was heavily criticised by MP for Ablekuma North Constituency, Justice Joe Appiah and the Communications Director for the National Democratic Party (NDP), Ernest Owusu Bempah for failing to find an antidote to the over three-year energy crisis.
After enduring the criticism for some time, the Legislator angrily ordered them and several persons that think like them out of the country of their birth if they can’t withstand the crisis which has crippled the country’s economy.
Several Ghanaians who have not been pleased by the constant shortfall in energy supply have complained about the crisis with the latest being a vigil organised by celebrities in Accra to register their displeasure.
Movie producers in Kumasi are also planning to do same in the coming days. The MP’s damming comments on the crisis which has pushed many businessmen out of business is akin to that of another Legislator, Ebenezer Teye Larbi who a fortnight ago on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen claimed persons without fridges and air conditions were rather crying more about the effects of the crisis.
To the Techiman South MP, his comments were in the right direction especially as his co-panelists on the station’s morning show and several critics of the government were not appreciating the numerous efforts by the government to address the dumsor crisis.
“I’m not afraid of what the statement could bring; you can even send it to the BBC, I don’t care…,” he responded when he was alerted about the controversy the comments could generate.
