The Member of Parliament for the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA), Dr. Nana Ato Arthur is asking constituents to demand evidence of the doctorate degree of the brother of the late President and NDC parliamentary candidate for the KEEA constituency, Dr. Samuel Mills.
According to the KEEA MP, after a thorough search for where Dr. Samuel Mills got his doctorate degree, it was evidently clear that the NDC parliamentary candidate was throwing dust into the eyes of the constituents.
Speaking on Asafo FM, a local radio station in the KEEA constituency, Dr. Ato Arthur dared his contender not to act deceitfully and not reap where he (Dr. Samuel Mills) had not sown.
“It is very worrying that Dr. Samuel Mills should be parading himself as a doctor when he is not. This seat has since 1992 been handled by doctors and the tradition must go on. If you are not a doctor you shouldn’t lie to the people that you are a doctor,” he said.
The former Central Region minister narrated how his search to unravel whether or not the brother of the late president qualifies to be called a doctor and stressed that it was high time people who purport to lead conducted themselves very well.
“After goggling and investigating into his title I found out that he was no doctor. I met him at Komenda Training College when I was invited for a program at the College and I questioned him if he indeed possessed a doctorate degree in order to be called a doctor. His response was,‘honestly, I have two masters degree and not a doctorate degree’. My response to him was, it does not work that way. You can’t put two masters degrees together to produce a doctorate degree. It doesn’t happen anywhere.”
The KEEA seat has since 1992 been held by people that bore the title of a doctor and there is a rebuttable presumption that whoever has no such title is not voted for to become a Member of Parliament. Notable people who had the title of a doctor prefixed to their names and have been MPs in the constituency are Dr. Ato Quarshie, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, Dr J. S Annan and the incumbent MP, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur.
Dr. Samuel Mills is yet to speak publicly on the allegation made the incumbent Member of Parliament.
