Kenya’s President to grace Ghana’s 59th independence


Ghanaians are preparing to celebrate 59 years of independence from colonial rule.

This year’s celebrations fall on a Sunday. The main celebration here in Accra will be held at the Independence Square.

Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta will grace this year’s edition as the Special Guest of Honour.

President John Mahama will on Sunday also review a national parade of school children, voluntary organisations and security services at the Black Star Square to commemorate the 59th Anniversary of Ghana’s Independence.


The theme for this year’s celebration is “Investing in the Youth for Ghana’s Transformation” with Kenyan President, HE Uhuru Kenyatta attending as the Special Guest of Honour.

President Mahama, is expected to be joined by two visiting heads of state.


There will also be a march past by security personnel and school children, drills and equipment display by the security agencies and performances by various groups.

All regional and district capitals across the country will have parades, while the country’s missions abroad will also host National Day events across the world.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, March 05, 2016, Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur will host the annual President’s Independence Day Awards at the State House.
