A sorrowful mood engulfed Kiabereria Village in Molo constituency, Nakuru County, on Monday night after a man burnt himself and his two children to death in his house following a domestic quarrel.

Jackson Njogu, 30, is said to have locked himself and the two children in the house before he set it ablaze.

According to OCPD Paul Cheruiyot, nothing was salvaged from the house as efforts by police and neighbours to put out the fire bore no fruit.

“Two children aged two and seven years, alongside Mr Njogu, died during the 11 pm incident.

“Police officers were alerted by neighbours about the incident, but upon reaching the scene they found the house already razed,” said the police boss.

Neighbours told the Nation that Mr Njogu and his wife had been feuding prior to the incident and that the two had quarrelled before the Monday incident occurred.

“They [had] been having a troubled marriage that led to their separation some weeks ago.

“By the time of the incident the wife was not in their matrimonial home,” said John Kiplagat, a neighbour.

Police said the man’s wife had been arrested and was assisting with investigations.

The bodies were taken to the Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
