Former Ghanaian international John Paintsil has announced his retirement from football.
The 34-year-old has finally hanged his boots after leaving South African Club Meritzburg United.
Paintsil declared his departure from active football having spent 17-years in the profession.
“John Painstil the Jeonju Man JP$ will like to announce my retirement from been (sic) a soccer player,” he posted on his instagram page.
“I thank God for bringing me this far. Was a long journey from 1999 to 2016. 2 world cups and 5 AFCAN and 89 CAPS FOR GHANA.”
The former Leicester City defender represented Ghana at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
He also played in the 2002, 2006 and 2008 Cup of Nations.
The right-back had spells with English Clubs West Ham United and Fulham as well as Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv all in the Israeli Premier League
