Help DKM customers retrieve locked cash – U/E Chiefs to Mahama


Following protests and petitions by aggrieved customers of Diamond Winners and DKM Diamond Micro finance companies in the Upper East Region over their locked up investments, the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs is appealing to government to assist the affected persons to retrieve their monies.

The President of the Regional House of Chiefs Naba Sigri Bewong, in a press statement read on the floor of the house of chiefs in Bolgatanga noted that, the situation is putting untoward hardships on the affected customers hence the need for government’s intervention to help save lives.

He said, most farmers, market women, students among others, who invested in the companies with the hope of making some returns to meet their needs in the future, are cash-trapped.

The Upper East Regional House of Chiefs received copied petitions from aggrieved victims of Diamond Winners and DKM Diamond micro finance companies both addressed to the president of the republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama.

The aggrieved customers of these micro finance companies after having presented the president of the house copies of their petitions, kept visiting and putting pressure on the house to help them retrieve their investment with the micro finance companies.

Documents available to the house of chiefs indicate that One Thousand  four hundred customers for DKM are affected with a total amount of eleven million, eight hundred and twenty nine thousand, three hundred and seventy one Ghana cedis, whereas the affected persons of Diamond Winners is One hundred and forty six with a total investment amounting to twenty seven million Ghana cedis.

This has brought total financial distress to the victims of the two companies on their businesses and who has a result of this saga cannot pay their wards or children school fees.

Those who invested so they can purchase farm inputs such as fertilizers for this year’s farming season cannot farm because their investments have been lockup. As chiefs of this region, we find the call by the aggrieved customers on us to help them retrieve their investment as appropriate.

It is in light of this call that, we wish to make this clarion call to government to take steps to relieve the suffering of these customers by getting the Micro finance companies to pay back the customers investments. –
