Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantekyie claims he knows nothing about a 20% slash in bonuses for the Black Stars.
New sports minister Nii Lantei Vanderpuye has been largely reported to have secured the slash from $ 10,000 to $8,000 payable in Ghana cedis in a move that has been lauded by those who believe the country pays way too much for players on international duty.
But the GFA boss says he is not privy to any such discussions from either the players or the minister himself. “I am not privy to any discussion with players or the minister on this matter. I read in the media that the minister has negotiated for the reduction of bonuses with players,” Nyantakyi said on GTV Sports Plus. “I’m not privy to that. I don’t know about that. I have not heard it from the Minister I have not heard it from the players. I only read about from the media.”
Ghana’s bonus structure has been a contentious issue for sometime now with many convinced it is unsustainable. Those who back the structure argue that the players must be adequately rewarded when they play for the national team.
