Germany intelligence spied on Kofi Annan

Kofi AnnanIt has appeared that German intelligence secretly listened to phone conversations involving Ghanaian former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in 2012 according to a magazine report.

Spiegel, a German news magazine reported that a conversation between the former UN chief and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was secretly recorded by Germany’s foreign intelligence agency (BND).

The report by Spiegel is expected to complicate German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s and her government’s outcry against the NSA after it was reported that the American agency tapped her cellphone.
