The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, will tomorrow launch a civic intervention project dubbed “Ghana Wins Election 2016” geared towards mobilising citizens to focus on promoting credible and peaceful election in November.
The project is designed to consolidate and build on the gains and lessons from previous election projects including “Face of the Nation” and the Post¬Election 2012 Adjudication” which were funded by STAR Ghana.
Through the 2016 project, also with the support of STAR-Ghana, GBC with its nationwide reach will create platforms for voter education and provide policy space for the electorate to engage political parties and candidates.
It will also build voters’ knowledge and capacity on key electoral processes, and mobilize broad public support to mitigate electoral violence.
Overall, GBC will build on the relationships established with State Institutions, civil society as well as other media organisations to sustain peaceful and credible election.
GBC believes that a vibrant media provides opportunities and avenues for civic participation in governance, transparency, accountability and responsiveness of duty bearers.
During the 2012 election, the EU Observer Mission commended GBC for the positive role it played in support of the process.
GBC’s “Ghana Wins Election 2016” project launch will be broadcast live tomorrow at 10am.
