GAF Gets First Female Brigadier-General


The Ghana Armed Forces has promoted Constance Ama Emefa Edjeani-Afenu to the position of Brigadier General.

She becomes the first ever female Brigadier General in Ghana.

Brigadier General Edjeani-Afenu is currently the Deputy Military Advisor to Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York.

Brigadier General Constance Ama Emefa Edjeani – Afenu’s position is expected to motivate and make it easier for women in the Ghana Armed Forces to advance.

Already some female officers of the army and other well-meaning Ghanaians have taken to social media to congratulate her.

The Ghana Armed Forces was founded in 1957 and has three main offshoots – the Navy, Air Force and Army besides the President’s own guard regiment.

The supervision of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence with the president as the Commander-in-Chief.
