Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has lashed out at government for not getting solutions to the worsening power crisis in the country.
He described the situation as a disgrace to the Mahama-led government which he says has incompetent leaders handling the power sector.
“For three good years, NDC has subjected Ghanaians to this miserable disease called Dumsor and nothing at all has been done to curb the situation. All we keep hearing from Mr. President are unfulfilled promises,” he said.
Ghana is currently reeling under a deteriorating power crisis, which has forced power producers, transmitters and distributors to shed between 500 and 600 Megawatts of supply.
President John Mahama has attributed the crisis to lack of gas supply from the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGPco) in Nigeria, as well as low water level in the Akosombo dam, Ghana’s main hydroelectric power station, which supplies about 37 percent of the country’s total power supply.
Two of the dam’s six engines have been turned off. Director of Public Affairs of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Nana Yaa Gyantuah has urged Ghanaians to pray for rain to help the situation.
Two other hydro power stations, Bui and Kpong, are also down due to low water level
Though, the President has continuously promised to banish darkness from our land and put an end to dumsor forever, nothing seems to be working.
But speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Friday, Nana Akomea said it takes leadership to mobilize relevant resources to stabilize the situation even if there are engineers who are supposed to work at the power sector.
“The situation is getting worse by the day, there are other alternative ways to curb this problem but government is just doing nothing. Government must up its game and find lasting solutions to this problem,” he warned.
However, a leading member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Horace Ankrah believes the problem is from ECG.
He explained that power producers always focus on positions instead of working efficiently.
