Ghana’s Black Satellites begin another quest for another world title with an opening Group B game against Austria in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
The Satellites, one of Africa’s four representatives at the tournament, will hope to maintain their perfect, undefeated record in the group stage against the Austrians.
Sellas Tetteh’s side are confident going into the tournament after their impressive pre-tournament preparations in New Zealand and Australia.
They won a four nation tournament in New Zealand as part of their preparations. They however, lost 1:0 to Portugal in a friendly in Australia but restored their confidence after beating Colombia 2:0 in their final friendly match.
Ghana is considered one of the big sides of the tournament and that tag is justified considering the Satellites’ impressive tournament record of one title, two runners up medals and a bronze medal in just six appearances.
The Satellites have certainly set their sights on another memorable campaign. But they must first negotiate qualification from a group also involving Argentina and Panama.
That task begins with Austria tomorrow at 7:00am GMT.
