Amnesty urges Gambia to free political prisoners

Human rights group, Amnesty International has called for the suspension of The Gambia from the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, unless it frees dozens of political prisoners and ends its brutal crackdown on freedom of expression.

Amnesty, published a new report launched two days before ECOWAS and the Gambian government are due to meet in the Senegalese capital Dakar.

The documents detailed how Gambia’s opposition politicians, journalists, and human rights activists have been arbitrarily arrested and harassed.
