Residents of the Abuakwa North constituency will today, Tuesday March 29, vote in a by-election to elect a new Member of Parliament following the death of the incumbent MP, JB Danquah-Adu, who was killed in his house last month.

The late JB Danquah-Adu was stabbed to death at his residence at Shiashie in Accra by a suspect identified as Daniel Asiedu, who is currently in police custody.

Contesting for the vacant position are the NPP’s Gifty Twum Ampofo, Samuel Frimpong of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), and Isaac Kwarteng of the United People’s Party (UPP).

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) said it would not be participating in the by-election as a sign of respect to the late MP.

The by-election is in accordance with Article 112(5) of the Constitution.
