Abedi Pele: Legend urges his sons to ‘deliver’ in England

Abedi-Pele-with-his-sons-Andre-and-Jordan-AyewGhanaian football legend Abedi “Pele” Ayew has tasked his sons, Andre and Jordan, to make the most of their time in England and achieve success with their respective clubs.

Andre started his English football career with a debut goal for Swansea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday while his younger brother Jordan played 67 minutes for his club Aston Villa against Bournemouth. And their father Abedi, speaking exclusively to Citi Sports, is demanding a lot more.

“As God gives these opportunities to the young men, they must humbly take them and turn them into something successful. For now, we cannot yet rate the moves as successful but we need to look at how things will go and we will pray that they (Andre and Jordan) can deliver for their teams. At the end of the season, we can look at the situation and say that we have been able to secure good deals, the boys have made a difference in their clubs and we will see what the future holds for us.”

Planned or coincidence?

The former Marseille, Torino and 1860 Munich player stated that there was a mix of deliberate timing and providence surrounding the movements of his sons from France to England in the summer. But he also admitted that good fortune had a part to play in the transfers.

“I think that their situations involved some planning and an element of coincidence. Andre was a free agent after leaving Marseille while Jordan was under contract (with Lorient) therefore he must have played well for a team (Aston Villa) to pay what they did for him. But there was some luck. You must be fortunate to get these opportunities when you are a footballer.”
