Eight people from Nankpeli-Chakosi in the Gbamgbampong electoral area within the Saboba District got drowned in river Oti on Sunday evening.
They were returning from a funeral at Jajaab, a village in Togo. They were pronounced dead by the a Medical Doctor at the Assemblies of God Hospital.
Seven dead bodies so far have been found. They are three women with one of them being a pregnant woman, two young girls and two kids.
A rescue team made up of locals and security personnel is on the Oti River trying to retrieve the remaining body. Speaking to the media, ASP Tim Kutsinyah, the District Commander of Police rubbished claims that the eight people were intoxicated.
Meanwhile, investigations have commenced into the incident.
