The winner of this season’s Ghana Premier League will earn over twice the amount received by last season’s champions.
This, according to the chairman of the Premier League Board Ashford Tetteh-Oku will be done despite the league have a sponsor.
Thus, the winner of the league will be walking away with $30,000 (GH¢114,000)
The league is currently without a headline sponsor following the withdrawal of First Capital Plus Bank (now Capital Bank) over “restructuring” reasons.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Ashford Tettey Oku confirmed the new cash prize.
“We made a proposal to the GFA and they have approved that the champions for the 2016 Ghana Premier League will take home $30.000,” Ashford said/
“I think this is very marvelous, wonderful and the FA must be commended.”
“Last year, the champions won GH¢ 50,000 when there was even a headline sponsor.
“But in the absence of a headline sponsor this season, the FA is prepared to pay 30.000 US dollars.”
The GFA, however, insists talks are underway to get a new sponsor for the domestic competition.
