How many times have your first impressions of a person turned out to be completely wrong? Well, that’s just one reason why judging a person is never a good idea. We all judge people, it’s only natural, but there are many reasons why we should not and here are just ten of them.
1. Everyone is different
Just because you like something, that doesn’t mean that everyone else will. Each and every person is an individual and, so long as their choices do not harm others, we should all respect those choices that they make. As they say: ‘Live and let live.’
2. You can’t judge by appearances
One of the biggest mistakes that people make is to judge people by their appearance. You cannot tell instantly who a person is by the cut of their clothes or how they wear their hair. That is just the superficial image and it gives no guide at all to the person who is underneath.
3. You wouldn’t like to be judged yourself
Before you pass judgement on someone else, you should think about how you would feel, if someone did that to you. It’s never nice to be judged as those judgements are rarely right, so, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
4. No one is perfect, not even you
None of us are perfect and none of us ever will be. It’s easy to find faults in another person, perceived or real, but then you will also have some of those, so perhaps you would be better off looking at correcting some of your own.
5. You rarely see the whole picture
It is very rare that you see the whole person or get to know them well enough to pass judgement on them. What you see is just a snapshot of the person, or what they want to you to see and, that can be very different from the person that they really are.
6. You could be wrong
Have you ever considered what the impact would be, if you judged a person unfairly? You could lose a good friend or lose a friend that you could have had. You could also hurt someone very deeply with comments that may be completely unfounded.
7. You will run out of friends fast, if you are quick to judge
If people begin to think that you are too judgmental, they will begin to move away from you. A good friend is someone who doesn’t judge you at all and will listen to what you have to say. Would you confide in a judgmental person?
8. Tolerance makes the world go around
We all have to get along with each other and tolerating each other’s differences is the only way that can happen. We are all different and we all make mistakes so, accept this in others and they will accept it in you.
9. What’s to say that your standards are the right ones?
By judging someone you are assuming that your standards, or your beliefs, are the right ones. Can you be so sure that they are not right and you are the one that is wrong?
10. Don’t judge my path, if you haven’t walked my journey
You really do have no right to judge another person’s life, because you haven’t lived it yourself. This famous quote sums up the reason not judge other people perfectly and it also shows why people should not judge you.
